Just when you thought you knew what you were doing, scientists are showing that you are dumber than your brain (or at least than your medial prefrontal cortex!

One of the most strikingly consistent findings of modern neuroscience is that the brain is at least as complex as the mind, and this finding on our predicted and our actual response to an antismoking campaign gives a glimpse at how tangled the relation between the two are.

I have been re-reading Rene Descarte's Meditations and even in translation you can hear him feel sorry for the body and the brain because they are an extended thing rather than a thinking thing. So, in the light of this study, is his position still tenable?
